What is the spraying licence?

In the Netherlands you need a certificate of competence in crop protection (bewijs van vakbekwaamheid gewasbescherming), commonly called the "spuitlicentie", to use plant protection products professionally. It is valid for five years. Within that period you collect recognised continuing-education credits to renew it. If it expires, you can no longer renew through continuing education and must take an exam again.

Which licence do you have?

This overview covers four commonly used individual certificates, in addition to the BG+DB combination route and other certificates. Application (UG) is mainly for employees who apply products under an available Management (BG) holder. Management (BG) is for business owners and managers who plan, purchase, store products or instruct staff. Advice (AG) is for professional advisers and requires five renewal points; at least one meeting must be within Cultivation and one physical Safety & Technique meeting is compulsory. Distribution & Storage (DB) is for managers of sales locations and people responsible for safe transport or storage.

How renewal works

You follow the subject courses online, at your own pace, on your phone, tablet or laptop. For Application (UG) and Management (BG) one physical Safety & Technique meeting per five years is still required. For Advice (AG), not every random combination of five online courses automatically meets the official requirements. Distribution & Storage (DB) can be done fully online. After you finish a course, AgriLearn reports your participation to Bureau Erkenningen (the Dutch recognition body). Processing by the body itself can then take up to about two weeks, so start well before your end date.
